BEST IN SHOW! A Weekend I Will Never Forget

Sometimes life surprises you in the most beautiful ways.

BEST IN SHOW!

I still can’t quite believe I am writing those words.

This weekend, October 24–25, 2026, at the 59th Annual Ocala Arts Festival in beautiful downtown Ocala, Florida, I received the highest honor of the festival.

Best in Show — for my fine art photography!

I have been smiling ever since. I think I am still floating somewhere above the clouds!

After nearly two decades of exhibiting my work, traveling thousands of miles, meeting extraordinary people, and chasing the beauty of our natural world, this moment feels especially meaningful.

And the fact that it happened practically in my own backyard makes it even sweeter.

A Festival With a Beautiful History

The Ocala Arts Festival is not just another art show.

Organized by Fine Arts For Ocala (FAFO), its roots reach back to 1966, when a group of community members came together with a shared vision of bringing fine art to Ocala.

What began as a small outdoor exhibition eventually grew into one of Central Florida’s beloved annual artistic traditions.

Today, the festival brings together approximately 145 juried artists from across the country, representing painting, sculpture, ceramics, glass, jewelry, photography, and many other artistic disciplines.

Walking through the festival, you are surrounded by creativity in every direction.

Every artist has a story.

Every booth represents years of dedication, experimentation, and countless hours spent developing a unique artistic voice.

That is one of the things I love most about participating in fine art festivals.

We may work in different mediums, but we share something very special: the desire to create something meaningful and share it with the world.

And this year, among all those talented artists, the judges selected my photography for Best in Show.

What an extraordinary honor!

The Road to This Moment

My artistic journey began long before I ever imagined receiving an award like this.

I was born in Budapest, Hungary, and my life eventually brought me to the United States.

Along the way, photography became much more than something I loved doing.

It became my way of understanding the world.

My way of slowing down.

My way of connecting with nature.

And perhaps most importantly, my way of sharing the beauty and fragility of our planet with others.

Over the years, my camera has taken me to some remarkable places.

I have stood beneath dancing northern lights, watched the Milky Way stretch across dark skies, photographed ancient trees, explored waterfalls and rivers, and spent countless hours waiting for the perfect moment when light transforms an ordinary scene into something extraordinary.

Of course, not every moment has been magical.

There have been exhausting drives, sleepless nights, difficult weather, broken equipment, disappointing shows, and plenty of moments when I wondered what on earth I was doing!

Anyone who travels the art festival circuit knows that the glamorous part is only a tiny piece of the story.

Behind every beautiful exhibition are countless hours of preparation, packing, loading, driving, setting up, taking everything down, and doing it all over again.

And somehow, we keep going.

Because we love what we do.

What an Extraordinary Year 2026 Has Been!

Looking back, I can hardly believe everything that has happened this year.

In January, I traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, where I received my Master of Photography degree from the Professional Photographers of America.

It was the culmination of years of dedication, learning, professional photographic competition, and artistic growth.

That alone made 2026 a year I would never forget.

But apparently, the universe had a few more surprises waiting!

During our summer art festival tour through the Midwest, I received six Outstanding Achievement in Photography awards in approximately six weeks.

Highland Park.

Gold Coast.

Millennium.

Southport.

Glencoe.

Glenview.

Six wonderful reminders that the work I have poured my heart into continues to connect with people.

And now, October.

BEST IN SHOW at the Ocala Arts Festival!

I don’t know what else to say except WOW!

And thank you.

Why This Award Means So Much

Photography is sometimes misunderstood as simply capturing what is already there.

But for me, fine art photography has never been about merely pressing a button.

It is about vision.

It is about patience, composition, light, emotion, and the ability to recognize something extraordinary in a fleeting moment.

Many of my large panoramic photographs are created from dozens of individual exposures, carefully captured and brought together to reveal a scene in extraordinary detail.

Some involve 50, 80, or even 100 separate images.

But the technical process is only part of the story.

What matters most to me is what the finished photograph makes someone feel.

When someone stands in front of one of my landscapes and tells me they can almost hear the waterfall, feel the peacefulness of the forest, or remember a place they once loved, I know the photograph has accomplished something meaningful.

And when my images inspire someone to appreciate or protect our natural world, that is an even greater reward.

Receiving Best in Show among so many talented artists working in different mediums is a wonderful acknowledgment that photography belongs in the world of fine art.

That recognition means a great deal to me.

A Moment Shared With Family

One of the most beautiful parts of this weekend was being able to share the moment with Mike and Michael.

They know better than anyone what goes on behind the scenes.

The long days.

The endless miles.

The heavy display panels.

The early mornings and late nights.

The excitement of a great show and the disappointment when things don’t go as planned.

They have been part of this adventure in ways that most people never see.

Standing together with that beautiful purple Best in Show ribbon was a moment I will treasure.

Sometimes the greatest reward isn’t just what we accomplish, but having someone beside us to share the happiness.

Never Stop Growing. Never Stop Dreaming.

If there is one thing I have learned during my artistic journey, it is that life rarely unfolds according to our carefully made plans.

There are detours.

There are disappointments.

There are moments when the road seems impossibly long.

And there are times when we question whether we should continue.

But I have also learned that every experience teaches us something.

Every challenge shapes us.

Every small accomplishment becomes another step toward something we may not even be able to imagine yet.

I am 56 years old, and I still feel that there is so much more I want to learn, experience, and create.

I have new places to explore.

New wildlife to photograph.

New stories to tell.

And new ways I hope to inspire people to appreciate the incredible natural world we share.

That is one of the most exciting things about being an artist.

There is no finish line.

There is always another sunrise.

Another beautiful landscape.

Another opportunity to see something familiar in an entirely new way.

So if you are reading this and wondering whether it is too late to follow a dream, learn something new, or begin another chapter in your life, I hope my story offers a little encouragement.

It is never too late.

Not to begin.

Not to grow.

Not to surprise yourself.

And certainly not to dream bigger.

With a Heart Full of Gratitude

I want to express my sincere appreciation to Fine Arts For Ocala, the festival organizers, judges, volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who works so hard to make this wonderful event possible.

Thank you for continuing a tradition that brings artists and communities together through the beauty of art.

To my fellow artists, thank you for the inspiration, friendship, encouragement, and creativity you bring to every festival.

And to everyone who has supported my work over the years—my collectors, friends, fellow photographers, gallery visitors, workshop participants, and those who follow my adventures—thank you from the bottom of my heart.

You have all become part of this journey.

When I look at that purple Best in Show ribbon, I don’t just see an award.

I see the miles traveled.

The landscapes explored.

The lessons learned.

The challenges overcome.

The people I’ve met.

And the extraordinary beauty of a world that continues to inspire me every single day.

This weekend, I celebrated a wonderful milestone.

But tomorrow?

I will still be the same curious photographer, looking for the next beautiful moment.

Because the journey is far from over.

And I have a feeling the best adventures are still ahead.

With love, gratitude, and a very happy heart,
